Memecoin safety checklist: spot red flags before you buy

Seven things to check on any Solana memecoin before you buy, and what MemeLaunch shows you for each one.

Before you start

No checklist makes a memecoin safe. Most memecoins lose most of their value. These checks help you avoid the obvious traps — never spend more than you can afford to lose.

1. Is the mint revoked?

If the creator can still mint, they can print new tokens and dump them on you. Every MemeLaunch coin has its mint revoked at launch — the coin page shows it in the safety badges.

2. Is freeze authority revoked?

A freeze authority can lock your tokens so you can't sell. MemeLaunch coins launch with freeze revoked.

3. Can the liquidity be pulled?

The classic rug: the creator removes the pool's liquidity. On MemeLaunch the bonding curve can't be emptied by the creator, and by default the DEX pool's liquidity is locked permanently at graduation. If the creator chose to control it, the coin page shows "⚠️ Creator controls the liquidity": they can remove up to 90% after graduation. How that works →

4. What is the creator doing?

Watch the creator's wallet. On MemeLaunch, creator trades are tagged DEV in the trade list, coin pages show labels like "Creator sold 0.5 SOL in 24h", and every creator has a public profile (linked from each coin page) with all the coins they've launched.

5. Is the activity real?

Lots of trades from one wallet is not demand. MemeLaunch's Trending score only counts wallets other than the creator, damps one-hour spikes, and flags "One wallet made most of the volume". These labels are estimates from public data — use them as a starting point, not a verdict.

6. Who holds the supply?

If a few wallets hold most of the tokens, they can crash the price. Check the holder bar on the coin page and the top holders on Solscan.

7. Are the links real?

Scam coins borrow famous names and fake socials. Always check the contract address (CA) — names and logos aren't unique, CAs are. Links a creator adds are their own claim; MemeLaunch marks them as not verified.

Red flags that should make you stop

Common questions

Can a MemeLaunch coin be rugged?

Printing more tokens and freezing wallets are blocked on every MemeLaunch coin. Pulling liquidity after graduation is blocked by default; if the creator chose to control the liquidity, the coin shows a ⚠️ warning and they can remove up to 90%. The price can still crash if big holders sell, so it can still go to zero.

What does a "DEV" tag mean in the trade list?

That trade was made by the wallet that launched the coin.

Is a high Trending score a buy signal?

No. It measures recent trading activity from outside wallets. It is not a safety rating or a recommendation.

Memecoins are extremely risky — most go to zero. Nothing here is financial advice. Read the risk disclosure.
